How it Works

In a hat league, all players join individually rather than as a team. SportsLink will form teams by randomly taking the names of the participants from a hat. Once drafted, players stay with that team over the course of a season.

Step 1: Choose a Sport

Click "Filter By Sport"  below and choose the league that you are interested in joining. 

Currently, we offer hat leagues for soccer and ultimate frisbee.

Step 2: Register

Use the "Register for the Hat League" button to sign up. During the checkout process, you'll be prompted to indicate your gender, skill level, position (if applicable), and pay a league fee. 

Step 3: Get Drafted

Typically, we will draft teams a week before the league begins. In some cases, we will offer a draft party as an opportunity to meet the other players on your team!

Once drafted, our team will send more information with your game schedule, teammates, etc. You will remain on your team for the duration of the season.

SOCCER HAT LEAGUE
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATIONS FOR THE COED HAT LEAGUE ARE OPEN FOR THE SUMMER SEASON!
BASIC LEAGUE INFO:
  • Season Begins May 2nd
  • Season Duration: 6 games plus playoffs. Typically 7-8 weeks.
  • Day & Time: Thursdays, 8:45-10:45pm
  • Location: OrthoCarolina Sportsplex - 13333 Dorman Rd, Pineville, NC 28134 
  • Cost: $75 for Field Player / $50 for Goalie - includes league fee, 90 day SportsLink Players Card, and team t-shirt. 
  • Gender & Format: COED 7v7

MORE ABOUT THE LEAGUE:

  • Depending on field space and number of sign ups, we will be forming 4-6 teams, teams might play each other twice, then single elimination playoffs.
  • Our goal is to have 11 players per team. We will only draft 12 max to a team. If we have less than 40 players register, we may change the format to 6v6. (9 min, 11 max)
  • League is coed, ratio dependent on ratio of men/women signups.
  • We will recruit for Goalies, but if we cannot find one, field players will have to alternate in the position.
  • This is a hat league, no team signups. No teammate requests can be honored.
  • This will be a social league. Please bring great a great attitude with the interest in meeting people and playing soccer combined.
THINGS TO KNOW:
  • If you already have an active SportsLink Players Card, we will add 90 days to the current expiration date.
  • You must register and make payment in order to be considered and drafted to a team.
  • By registering this is NOT A GUARANTEE that we will be able to place you on a team. Teams are formed based on the availability of enough players and team space availability in a specific league. In the event we cannot place you on a team, we will provide a full refund.
SOFTBALL HAT LEAGUE
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATIONS FOR THE COED HAT LEAGUE ARE OPEN FOR THE SUMMER SEASON!
BASIC LEAGUE INFO:
  • Season Begins May 13th
  • Season Duration: 6 games plus playoffs. Typically 7-8 weeks.
  • Day & Time: Mondays, 6:30-10:30pm
  • Location: Park Road Park
  • Cost: SPECIAL PRICE of $45 per player - includes league fee, 90 day SL Passport, and team t-shirt. (Price is typically $75 per player)
  • Gender & Format: COED 10v10 - Format may vary depending on the gender ratio that sign up.  
  • Draft Party: Monday, May 6th @ Angry Ales. Time TBD.

What is a Hat League?

I signed up for a hat league, now what?

Our staff will form teams based on the amount of sign ups received. Typically, we will draft these 1 week before the season begin.

After signing up as an individual, you can expect to be contacted by one of our staff as we approach the season.

Upon forming team, we will ask one player to step up as the Team Captain. Team Captains make sure that your team will have enough players each week and will help find subs if you don’t have enough people.

Does it cost to play in a hat league?

Individuals can sign up to play in one of our hat leagues for $75. 

The $75 will cover the league fee and give the individual a 90 day player's card, which is required by all players in our leagues. Each free agent will also receive a team shirt and equipment for the season.

If the player already has an annual player's card, we will add 90 days to the expiration of that card.

Do I need a Player's Card to play in a hat league?

What else do I need to know?

Communication with your teammates is key. Once placed on a team, be sure to let your teammates know if you cannot make a game in case they need to find a sub or we need to help with subs. Players can communicate through their DaySmart accounts with other teammates, but we highly recommend exchanging phone numbers and creating a group text message between teammates.

Team shirts are provided for SportsLink players that are placed on a hat team.
